Examples of search and mission statements

Some talents are not looking for a role in data science or artificial intelligence - at least not immediately — but rather in data analytics and related areas. Again, it helps if you know what you are looking for. You will have a clearer sense or orientation, and the (potential) hiring manager or recruiter can more easily relate to your resume.

We will be sharing for inspiration some successful search and mission statements — and keep adding more, so you may want to follow this page.

Typically, the statement says who you are professionally, what you want to do, where you are looking, and why you want to move on.

“I am a data analyst with six years of experience in modeling datasets that includes handling the whole pipeline from preprocessing of data to the visualization of results. I am highly proficient in programming languages such as R and BASH. I hold a Ph.D. in Biomolecular Sciences, and from July 2018 I am looking for a new position in Berlin, preferably in a consulting role.”

“I handle and analyze data, and have experience with software deployment by working at -abc- in Geneva. I am obtaining my Master at the University of -xyz-in particle physics. From July 2018 onwards, I am looking in Berlin for a new challenge enabling me to combine my technical skills with project management in data analysis and predictive modeling.”

“I am a mathematician and economist skilled in statistics and data analytics looking for a new challenge in a startup or a new data-driven business unit from January 2019 onwards, preferably in Berlin. I am trained in Python, R, and SQL for handling data and predictive modelling. I have an interest in game theory but equally value behavioral decision-making for handling real-life issues.”

I am a data analyst with a background in physics and the history of science. I have built a MySQL database from scratch and I am skilled in the use of Python libraries for data analysis and visualisation. I have developed data-driven narratives for the scientific and lay public. I am looking for data analyst roles in the Berlin area from September 2020.

I am a curious, mission-driven data analyst keen to use data to solve problems and make decisions that matter. Experienced in data wrangling, exploration and preparation, I develop models that forecast and optimize energy consumption and emission reduction trends under different (policy) scenarios. In my work I break down technical and conceptual complexities and focus on providing clear and compelling insights to a wide range of often non-technical stakeholders from public to private institutions. I am particularly interested in the field of resource efficiency in the energy sector and open to fixed and freelance contracts.
